Interest in locomotor system disorders has led to coordinated work amongst three medical specialties: Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine, Rheumatology, and Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. All three departments have one trait in common: they treat patients who suffer from pain and functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system. In 2004 the specialties of Otolaryngology and Plastic Surgery were added, and thus the new Clinical Institute of Medical and Surgical Specialties (ICEMEQ) was formed.
Our mission is to meet the needs of the hospital's clients with quality, fairness and efficiency in all matters of the locomotor system, otolaryngology and plastic surgery. At the same time, by making it a priority to serve the interests of patients, we aim at developing undergraduate and postgraduate practice, together with a policy of applied research. Our job is to prevent, treat, teach and conduct research in a sufficient manner, with the same quality and at an optimal cost. To achieve this goal, we include all of the healthcare professionals at our hospital with dedication and specialised training in the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the locomotor system and the above-cited specialties.
