The Clínic Institute of Nephrology and Urology (ICNU) aims to become a reference centre dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney, urinary tract and male reproductive system diseases, by focusing on patients and bringing its care, teaching and research activities to the maximum level of quality possible. It was created within Project Prism, the redesign of the care services offered by the Hospital Clínic, and was approved in June 1999.
The main task of the Institute is to contribute to the diagnosis of patients who need highly specialised services, respond to their hospitalisation needs, and be a reference centre for treatments which, owing to their complexity or to specific circumstances, must be provided in the hospital, such as dialysis for high-risk patients or kidney transplants.
